Vivekanandan re-elected

Former sports star Shivantha Vivekanandan was elected uncontested President of the Deaf School Past Pupils Association, The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana for the ninth successive year at the 62nd Annual General Meeting held at the Stanley Hall, The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana.

Shivantha is a distinguished past pupil of the School for the Deaf, Ratmalana and Maryline High School, Kollupitiya. He was a good sportsman as well as a brilliant student who won many awards in sports, arts and studies. He represented the Deaf Recreation Club, Rajagiriya at cricket, athletics and table tennis where he won many trophies, medals, certificates and awards.

During Vivekanandan’s excellent stint as Chairman, Organizing Committee,he organized the Deaf Schools Sports activities like netball, cricket and volleyball (boys and girls), partnered by Chevron Lubricants PLC (then Caltex Lubricants Lanka Ltd) from 2002 to 2011, which many deaf schools in Sri Lanka took part.

The following office-bearers were elected for the year 2011/2012, Patron: Mrs Manisha Peiris (Principal); President: Shivantha Vivekanandan; First Vice President: Jagath de Mel, Second Vice President: Nandana Fernando; Hony Secretary: K.T.T. Sumanadasa; Hony Assist. Secretary: N. Gayan Shantha; Hony Treasurer: Anura Gunasekera; Hony Asst. Treasurer: Mahesh Jayawardena; Committee Members: Prasanna Arunasiri, Lakshman Dalpathado, Dhanushka Fernando, G.M. Nishantha Kumara.
