Artistes left in the lurch

Sri Lanka's artistic community is in disarray.Talented artists complain their talents and efforts go unrecognized, unappreciated and limited to annual exhibitions Chandana Gunatilake is a multi-talented artiste with a difference. Whilst regular artists use paper, clay and stone, Chandana creates his works of art with discarded nuts and bolts.

Yet he feels his and other artiste's talents and skills go a begging.We have neither backers nor promoters.With the present tourist boom, government should provide a venue to highlight talent and promote sale of these masterpiecesToday unfortunately, we are limited to an annual 'Kala-pola'.

This year's pola show-cased the talents of 500 young artistes and attracted a number of foreign and local art lovers There is a need for a permanent exhibition and sales centre
