Four weeks after the killing of a mother and daughter in Kahawatte, police have yet to make a breakthrough, despite questioning dozens of persons, mostly from the village, a police officer said yesterday.
Police spokesman Ajith Rohana told the Sunday Times that three teams from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and six more police teams were involved in the probe. “This seems to be a well planned murder which is making it difficult to find the person or persons responsible,” he said.
Among those questioned and released was a brother of a local politician.
The mother, Nayana Nilmini (52) and her daughter Kavindi Chaturangi (18) were reportedly killed on January 31. The daughter’s body was found in a rubber estate about three kilometres from the house. |
