S. Thomas’ began their campaign of the Singer Under 20 inter-school Division 1B rugby tournament with a crushing 43-7 win over St. Sylvester’s in the match played at Mt. Lavinia yesterday.
The Thomians having taken a comfortable 19-7 lead at the breather, accumulated points through four goals and three tries as against a goal by St. Sylvester’s.

The first half saw the Thomians drawing first blood through a try by center Kingsley Moses in the fifth minute followed by a try by wing three quarter Sahan Rodrigo ten minutes later with the conversion put over by fly half Devin Jayasinghe giving the home side a 12-0 lead.
St. Sylvester’s reduced the lead when second row Mohamed Shiraj going over for a try with full back T. Wijetilleke adding the extra points. In a ding dong battle that followed the Thomians succeeded in penetrating their opponents defence just before the short whistle with fly half Devin Jayasinghe going for an unconverted try.
The resumption saw the Thomians though undergoing some anxious moments settle down as they went on a try scoring spree. No 8 Naheed Zainudeen was the first to score.
Flanker Rahantha Abeykoon posted the home sides fifth try while hooker Supun Askimuni went over for the third try in the second half and fly half Devin Jayasinghe going over for his second try and the last of the Thomians. Devin converted two of the tries in this session to give the sea side boys a comfortable victory.
