A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) and the Sri Lanka Insurance Institute (SLII) to introduce a course in Insurance Marketing (Diploma in Insurance Marketing) for sales personnel recently.
The course designed mainly for Insurance Sales personnel, has 3 semesters and each stage will consist of marketing and insurance subjects.
As the national body of marketing, SLIM recognizes ‘Sales’ as an integral part of Marketing. The objective here is to aid in developing the sales profession and professionals further especially in the insurance field.
Marketing of insurance products should be carefully planned so that the information about certain insurance services would be easily available to the potential customer, and make it appealing to his or her requirements and also build confidence without overloading the customer with information, Sanath Senanayake, CEO/ Exective Director- SLIM Said.
“To make the insurance business prosperous, the usage of insurance marketing strategies is vital, and not only is the successful implementation of these strategies important, but the selection of strategies themselves. When choosing insurance marketing strategies factors such as budgets, advertising campaigns, age of the target audience, social status of potential customers, possible requirement etc., has to be taken into account, all of which will be comprehensively covered by this course.”
Meanwhile, Thushara Perera (President- SLIM), who is now the Immediate Past President, Sanath Senanayake (CEO/Executive Director- SLIM), Charitha Jayasinghe (Exco member- SLIM),. Samantha Ratnayake (AGM operation & Education- SLIM), Udeni Kiridena –President- SLII, Deepthi Lokuarachchi – Immediate Past President- SLII, Sanjiv Keerthiratne –Vice President- SLII, Thusitha Nandasiri –Secretary – SLII, and Lalith Fernando- Representative of Marketing & Sales Forum of Insurance Association of Sri Lanka.(who is also the council member of SLII) witnessed the MoU signing between the two Institutes amid a gathering.
SLIM has created a professional educational career path in marketing commencing from the entry level, preliminary certificate in marketing going right up to MBA covering a gamut of disciplines in marketing such as, Brand, Sales and Pharmaceutical.
The Preliminary Certificate in Marketing delivers a thorough grounding in marketing to students and young professionals.
Furthermore, the National Diploma in Sales Management (NDSM) is designed for sales career minded candidates seeking to acquire specific competencies to differentiate themselves from other sales personnel. This programme has appealed to those who are already in the marketing or business development force intending to enhance their skills in sales management.
Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing (CIM-UK), Masters in Business Administration (Bucks New University-UK), and the Certified Professional Marketer (Asia) are among the other professional Marketing courses offered by SLIM.
In addition to providing professional Marketing education, as the national body of marketing, SLIM encourages best practices in marketing through national level events such as Brand Excellence which recognizes the most successful brands, Effie awards, the most effective advertising, NASCO, the sales excellence and Peoples Awards which recognizes the “people’s choice”. These events together with academic programmes not only enhance the image of the marketing profession but also create pathways for more marketers to reach the boardroom level.
The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) founded in 1970 (then called Ceylon Institute of Marketing) with a view to harness the available skills in Marketing for the growth and development of the profession, was subsequently incorporated by Act 41 of 1980 of Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
