UNITED NATIONS -- Sri Lanka will commemorate the annual International Day of Vesak at the UN General Assembly tomorrow with several ambassadors, senior UN officials, delegates and expatriates attending.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who is on an overseas mission, has sent a message pointing out that this year's Vesak celebrations take place on the eve of a historic UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Brazil next month.
The conduct of Vesak celebrations at the UN came on the initiatives of Sri Lanka’s then Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar. |
