The Tamil National Alliance reiterated yesterday that talks with the Government were possible only if it accepted the outcome as the basis for discussions at the proposed Parliamentary Select Committee.
Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Rauff Hakeem, who is mediating between the TNA and the Government, met with TNA leader R. Sampanthan and parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran this week to revive the stalled talks.
“The TNA conveyed to Mr. Hakeem that the party position. The TNA is not rejecting or boycotting the proposed PSC, but it wants the government to agree that the outcome of the talks should form the agenda for the PSC,” a TNA spokesman said.
Meanwhile, a TNA Parliamentary delegation will visit New Delhi next week to meet Indian political leaders. The visit takes place following an invitation extended by the Indian government.
