The Colombo Tea Auction this week had over 6 million kg of tea on offer with 2.77 million kg of Low Grown Main Grades and 2.08 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
In the Leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues Select Best BOP1/OP1s maintained previous levels, whilst best BOP1s too were fully firm, however corresponding OP1s gained. Below best BOP1 and the corresponding OP1s were fully firm.
Teas at the lower end maintained. Select Best OP/OPAs declined, whilst best varieties too were irregular and at times easier. Below best sorts were generally firm. Teas at the lower end maintained.
Better demand for Westerns at this week’s Ex-Estate auction. Improved Western BOP/BOPFs gained upto Rs.100 selectively. Below best were dearer at about Rs.20 to Rs.40 whilst the bottom maintained. (SD)

Former President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake was today remanded until February 11 by the Fort Magistrate in relation to the case where former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is alleged to have misused Rs. 16.6 million in state funds during a visit to the UK to attend his wife’s graduation ceremony at the University of Wolverhampton.
