There was a good general demand in the Ex-Estate catalogues and prices moved up in most categories at the Colombo Tea Auction this week where there was 5.48 million kg of tea on offer this week of which 2.46 million kg were Low Grown Main Grades and 1.78 million kg were High and Mid Grown Main Grades, the Asia Siyaka Market report stated.
Better Western BOPs attracted much more demand and gained Rs.50 to Rs.150; others were fully firm. Best Western BOPFs gained Rs.50 to Rs.100 and more following special inquiry; others were about firm and upto Rs.50 dearer. A few better Nuwara Eliya BOP/BOPFs were fully firm. There were limited Udapussellawa BOPs on offer. BOPFs were fully firm with select lines moved up in value. Better Uva BOPs came to a dearer market and gained upto Rs.100; others irregular. Better BOPFs were fully firm. Others declined upto Rs.50. Stylish Medium BOPs sold well; others fully firm. BOPFs were irregular but were firm on last. High priced CTC PF1s were irregular but overall were firm on last. A few liquoring PF1s moved up in value; others held last levels. BP1s were barely steady.
In the Leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues select best BOP1 were irregular lower, whilst best/below best teas held last levels. Select best OP1 gained in value, whilst all others were irregularly lower.
Pekoe’s were irregularly lower. In the Premium Flowery catalogues long leaf and small leaf tippy teas met with good demand. (SD)
