Chairman of the International Ethics Standard Board for Accountants (IESBA) Dr. Stavros Thomadakis who was in Sri Lanka recently on an invitation extended to him by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), met with several top government and regulatory officials, where matters in relation to the accounting and auditing profession as well as the economy of Sri Lanka was discussed.
Dr. Thomadakis, who was accompanied by Ken Siong, Director Technical of IESB met with Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy, Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Thilak Karunaratne, Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe, and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board R.A.A Jayalath, a CA Sri Lanka media release said.
The IESBA officials were accompanied by top officials of CA Sri Lanka including its President Lasantha Wickremasinghe, Vice President Jagath Perera, Past President and IESBA Board Member Reyaz Mihular and CEO Aruna Alwis.
During the meeting the local and international officials discussed in detail a series of matters pertaining to the accounting and auditing profession in Sri Lanka, as well as the importance of updating the ethics for the professionals to follow. Matters in relation to the current economy in the country as well as the development of the capital market, and the future developments of Sri Lanka, along with the opportunities and challenges facing the country were also discussed, the release said.
