An anti-leprosy campaign was launched today at a function held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI)
‘Act2prevent (A2P) campaign is a collaborative effort between the Anti-Leprosy Campaign and the Alliance Development Trust (ADT).
The ALC is the main body in charge of all leprosy control activities in Sri Lanka and comes under the purview of the Ministry of Health. ALC is currently under the supervision and leadership of its Director Dr Nirupa Pallewatte.
The ADT, a NGO actively involved in many socially beneficial ventures, and experienced in working at grassroots in different districts in Sri Lanka.
Leprosy is one of the primary areas of ADT’s focus.
The campaigns main objective is to create awareness about leprosy, and how early detection can prevent disabilities, alleviating the stigma associated with Leprosy.
‘A2P calls on individuals, communities and institutions to play an active role in reshaping the narrative surrounding leprosy.
‘Our goal is to ensure that no one fears this disease or victimizes those who are being treated for its anymore. But freely accepts them society instead’, a press release about the event said.
