It was a walk through mid-20th Century Ceylon’s cultural ambience when Rohan de Soysa, Chairman of the Sapumal Foundation, hosted an evening walkthrough of his late uncle, Harry Pieris’s quaint bungalow-turned-gallery down Barnes Place, Colombo 7.
He was taking the attendees down the avenues of times past as part of KALA- the South Asian Art Platform, drawing their attention to such gems as George Keyt’s Nayika, Collette’s elegant caricatures and Harry’s own Indrani dotting the walls.
The Sapumal Foundation, exhibiting Ceylonese art from the 1920s to date, has an extensive collection of the ‘43 Group and is one of the country’s finest art galleries.
