The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau unveiled a documentary portraying the natural beauty of Sri Lanka at the ITB travel and trade show in Berlin, Germany, this week.
The all-female filming team captured Sri Lanka’s “stunning landscapes and vibrant culture” including the wildlife in the country, the Tourism Development Ministry said in a press release.
The filming and production team with its extensive experience working with the BBC’s Natural History Unit, were collectively responsible for some of its most spectacular series’ including Blue Planet II, Africa, Human Planet and Our Blue Planet.
Meanwhile, a Sri Lankan pavilion was also launched at the event under the theme ‘So Sri Lanka’. The pavilion is expected to provide 72 hoteliers and Sri Lankan tour operators to form networks with other stakeholders in the industry.
Tourism Minister John Amaratunga speaking at the opening of the pavilion said that he is confident of achieving the target of three million tourist arrivals to the country this year.
He also explained that the theme ‘So Sri Lanka’ was a step-up factor in highlighting the location of the country in a bid to draw more tourists.
The pavilion comprises some of Sri Lanka’s unique offerings including an in-house Ayurveda Spa, a tea boutique which offers Ceylon Tea and another selfie competition which is expected to draw in more crowds to the social media handles related to Sri Lanka Tourism.
“Winners of the Selfie competition will be offered airline tickets, holiday packages by the private sector in order create greater awareness of the destination through digital media” the tourism ministry noted in the release.
The trade fair in Berlin will be participated by over 180 countries and will run until March 10.
SLTPB Chairman Kishu Gomes and Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Germany, Karunasena Hettiarachchi were some of the key dignitaries at the event.
