Hollywood actress Gal Gadot has expressed her support to two young Sri Lankan Cos Players after they were ridiculed and cyber-bullied for cosplaying Wonder Woman.
The two had become the target of a wave of online memes, body-shaming and harassment.
Both Gadot, who played the character in the recent blockbuster movie, and its director Patty Jenkins tweeted support and encouragement.
Amaya Suriyapperuma and Seshani Cooray chose to dress up as Wonder Woman at the Comic Con 2017 event in Colombo, little did they realise they would become the center of demeaning online memes.
As photographs of the two girls started being circulated and shared online the two were picked up by Facebook groups mocking them for their appearance.
Amaya Suriyapperuma noted the following on her FB page :
This cosplay garnered so much hate on Facebook and people retaliated with love and support and that's amazing! But the best part was, Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman herself said that my costume was "great, strong and beautiful" !!!
I'm still awestruck but I hope the haters learned that you can't hate on someone who lives by the principle of love, Karma dealt with it beautifully. Now we wait for Gal Gadot to notice this!
