A 26-year old has been arrested for transporting 500 bottles of both local and foreign liquor in Moratuwa today (Mar 14).
The suspect was arrested following a tip-off received by the Moratuwa Police.
A total of 37,500 litres of liquor was seized from the possession of the suspect along with his car which was used to transport the liquor. The excise law permits an individual above the age of 21 to possess only 7500 litres of liquor at a public place.
Police have identified the suspect as a resident of Ragama. He is due to be produced before the Mount Lavinia courts today.
Moratuwa police are investigating the matter further.
