The number of candidates for this year’s Presidential election stands at 31 as of today (Friday), according to Mahinda Deshapriya, Chairman Elections Commission.
Mr. Deshapriya made this remark speaking at the Youth First event organised by the Elections Commission of Sri Lanka at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo.
Youth from across the island were invited for the event and all of them were excited to know what’s going to happen to this year’s presidential elections.
Mr. Deshapriya also noted that all youth of the country must vote and vote wise. “Do not stay home without voting. All votes count for a country’s leader no matter who you vote for.” He said: “My first vote is my first love”. He pointed out that many youth who will be voting for the first time at an election.
