The Mullaitivu Press Club has strongly condemned the attack on journalist Vishvalingam Vishvachandran which took place on Saturday (27) near an Army camp in Mullaitivu.
The Press Club in a statement has said that the security forces have forcefully seized his video camera and phone as well in the incident.
The journalist was attacked while capturing footage near an army camp on the day various commemorative activities were due to take place in remembrance of those who were killed in the northern conflict.
The journalist, attacked with what is believed to be Palmyrah branches wrapped with barbed wire is currently in hospital, the Press Club said.
“Continued attack on the fourth pillar of democracy has sounded a death knell for journalism and journalists in Sri Lanka’, the statement said. (Pix by- S. Thavaseelan)
