The Report of the Commission of Inquiry into the establishment and maintenance of places of unlawful detention and torture chambers at the Batalanda Houaing Scheme will be presented to parliament this week, the government confirmed today.
Cabinet spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa confirmed this during today’s Cabinet press briefing.
The Report released in 2000 has come to light in the wake of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s recent interview to the Al Jazeera network where he was questioned about the contents of the report.
Mr. Wickremesinghe was among those who gave evidence before the Commission. His name has been implicated as having had knowledge about the existence of the unlawful detention centre.
