Body of a 52 year old woman found in a lagoon

A body a 52 year old mother of four have been found in a Norochcholai  Sethapala lagoon, police said today.

The police said that they have identified the body of the deceased woman as 52 year old Sebesthiyan Ursula a resident of the Norochcholai Sethapala- Manipuriya area.

The police elaborated that the body of the woman have been hidden in a muddy area near sethapala fishing harbor situated within the lagoon. The police believes that the body was hidden at the muddy area after the woman was mysteriously murdered.

Fishermen at the harbor have seen the body and had informed the police.

The police also explained that the woman’s head had two injuries caused by a sharp weapon.

The police said that they were also able to locate an RS 20,000, cloths, medicine, a mobile phone, and a gold chain and a small gold ring a used by the victim and a letter inside a plastic bag hidden away in the mangrove forest at the lagoon near the fishing harbor.

 Police have found out that the woman had three daughters and a son and all of them are living separately after getting married. The woman’s husband had passed away some time back and therefore the woman was living with the second eldest daughter.

The police said that they have learned that the woman had left the second daughters house on July 25saying that she is leaving for religious activity at Sedawatta church. She had taken three wheel to for the pilgrimage.

The police have arrested the driver of the three wheel she hired today evening. Though the three wheel driver was arrested a statement was not yet recorded.

The Puttlam Magistrate Meheel Sachintha Sathurusinghe who visited the murder site, ordered the police to send the body to Puttlam base hospital to carry out the post mortem inquiry.

The police forensic officers and Norochcholai police collected finger print samples and carried out further investigations at the area where the body was found.
