The Cabinet has approved a proposal to sign MOUs with ten foreign universities including higher education institutes in China, Japan and Australia.
The MOUs are being signed with the objective of raising Sri Lankan universities to the top of world rankings and internationalising higher education collaborations with foreign universities.
Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education Harini Amarasuriya made the proposal to Cabinet to sign the Memoranda of Understanding between Sri Lankan universities and foreign universities.
These include MOUs between University of Sri Jayawardenapura and University of Wuhan in the People's Republic of China, University of Isu in Japan, the University of Agder in Norway and the University of Deakin in Australia.
The University of Moratuwa and the University of Linyi in the People’s Republic of China will sign a MOU for participation in the conferences and academic meetings with the objective of promoting cooperation on postgraduate programs while the University of Peradeniya and the Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology, in India will sign a MOU with the objective of transferring relevant research and education programs and learning materials and other relevant literature information.
A MOU will also be signed between the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka and Shandong University of Science and Technology in China, University of Kelaniya and State University of New York Cortland in the USA, Open University of Sri Lanka and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia and the University of Kelaniya and National Korean Maritime and Ocean University in the Republic of Korea.
