President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that the government will allocate Rs. 11,250 million through District Coordination Committees to resume the decentralized budget program that was halted for three years.
President Wickremesinghe says that the funds will be released to District Secretaries in the first week of January 2024.
He announced in parliament that the 2024 Budget Speech will be implemented under the Department of National Planning's supervision, using a systematic and standard approach.
“The economic crisis and lack of funds led to the temporary suspension of regional development programs, preventing public representatives from contributing to these activities,” he added.
Accordingly, starting next year, each district in the country will receive a decentralized budget based on the available number of seats.
