Sri Lanka's billionaire businessman, Dhammika Perera has resigned as the chairman or co-chairman from his portfolio of 12 public listed companies including Hayleys, its subsidiaries and Singer on Friday, as announced by the Colombo Stock Exchange.
He is slated to enter Parliament through the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National List slot left vacant by former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa and provided a cabinet position.

A nominee to the legislative assembly is required to have no connection to business enterprises . a requirement ..very ethical and laudable for it prevents conflict of interests on decision making ..but then if the family is connected .then the rule loses its credibility .I wonder how the law was interpreted in this case or how the nominee relinquished his POSITIONS in the business world to be of a real service to the nation ...laws are indeed left ambiguous for lawyers to have a field day .
