State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe announced that the “Aswesuma” welfare benefit payments for the month of December, totaling more than Rs. 8 billion, have been credited to the bank accounts of the relevant beneficiaries.
The overall amount spent for "Aswesuma" payments from July to December 2023 will be Rs. 51,967 million after the sum of Rs. 8,793 million, meant for 1,410,064 families, has been paid to the banks.
The lawmaker disclosed that payments have been made to 209,745 transitional households, 290,624 vulnerable families, 606,496 impoverished families, and 303,199 severely poor families.
