Drug used at beach parties detected

A stock of narcotics reported to be fast selling at beach parties has been detected by the Special Task Force (STF) leading to the arrest of a 27 year old person from the Dehiwala area.

The suspect was in possession of 75 rare pills with an estimated value of Rs. 6000 each,

According to the information received by the officers of STF Operations Division III, Sub-Inspector of Police, A. H. O. S. Silva of Special Operations Division III and a team of officers conducted a raid near the Dehiwala flyover.

A mobile phone was also discovered in possession, the suspect and the seized items were handed over to Dehiwala Police Station for further investigation.

The tablets are extremely rare in Sri Lanka, and are meticulously smuggled through airports, from the USA or Malaysia, with limited stocks of 100 or 200 tablets.

In comparison to normal drug tablets which cost around Rs. 100, the "Pill" tablets cost Rs. 6000, popular among youth, who use it in beach parties, with effects lasting from 12 to 24 hours.

The tablet increases blood pressure to abnormal levels, rendering it not only harmful, but also risky, where one to two tablets can cost one's life as well.

Currently, there are no methods to identify a person on this drug, but such people tend to smoke more cigarettes and listen to more music.
