The Election Commission of Sri Lanka (ECSL) has set December 6, 2024, as the deadline for submitting campaign expense reports by all candidates, secretaries of political parties, independent group leaders who contested in the recent Parliamentary Election, and members appointed through national lists.
They are required to submit their reports on or before 12:00 midnight on that date.
This requirement is mandated under the Campaign Finance Act No. 3 of 2023, according to the ECSL.
All candidates are required to submit their campaign expense reports to the relevant District Returning Officers in the districts where they contested the Parliamentary Election.
Meanwhile, members elected through national lists must submit their reports to the General Secretariat of Elections on or before the specified date.
The ECSL has arranged to operate special units during the period designated for the submission of campaign finance reports.
These units will have extended working hours, remaining open until 6:00 pm on weekdays and until midnight (12:00) on December 6, the final deadline for submissions.
The ECSL stated that it will take action in accordance with Clause 8(A) of the Election Campaign Finance Act No. 3 of 2023 against those who fail to submit their income and expense reports for the recently concluded Parliamentary Election by the announced deadline.
