At least eight persons were taken into custody on Saturday for illegally transporting sea sand from Palaitheevu, an islet that comes under the purview of Kilinochchi district, Navy said.
According to the Navy, following a tip-off, Navy personnel carried out an operation that led to the arrest of eight individuals when they were transporting sandbags to three boats. The boats were also seized by the authorities.
