Eleven members of a dance troupe including eight girls were injured in an accident in Hali Ela, Badulla today morning after the van they were travelling in, crashed on to a tree, Police said.
They were returning after taking part in the perahera of the Dowe Raja Maha Viharaya.
The vehicle had been driven by the teacher in charge of the dance troupe.
Some of the injured were serious and receiving treatment at the Badulla General hospital.
Police said initial investigations have revealed that the driver had fallen asleep.
