Former Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya has sent in his application to serve as a member of the Election Commission.
Mr Deshapriya, currently the Chairman of the Delimitation Commission has also sent in his application to serve on the Delimitation Commission as well.
Mr Deshapriya confirmed that he has sent applications to serve in either of the Commissions
The Constitutional Council had called for applications from persons who wish to serve on the Independent Commissions. Accordingly around 8000 persons have sent their applications.
A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
