Sandaru Dilshan, a Grade 7 student of Katugalgahagegama Junior School in Buttala, who lost his right limb due to a road accident, was gifted an artificial leg by former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa on Monday at Temple Trees.
Sandaru had been growing chillies in his spare time after school in a bid to find enough money to purchase an artificial limb. The Principal of Katugalgahagegama Junior School, D.M.S.S. Dissanayake had become aware of Sandaru's efforts and had informed Mrs Rajapaksa about the child, leading her to gift him an artificial limb, The Prime Minister's Media Unit said.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was also present on the occasion and offered his best wishes to Sandaru for his further education.
