A Sri Lanka Air Force intelligence officer attempting to smuggle gold valued at over Rs 20 million out of the Bandaranaike International Airport has been arrested.
The 37-year-old officer with a service period of 17 years was arrested by the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs while attempting to exit the arrival terminal through the staff gate.
During the body scan, 40 gold biscuits of 24-carat purity (10 grams and 20 grams each), weighing 550 grams, concealed around his waist, were discovered by Customs officials.
He is a resident of Minuwangoda.
Last week a security officer attempting to smuggle gold valued at Rs 210 million was arrested at the BIA. He had concealed the gold biscuits in the socks.
