A former soldier who served in the same regiment of former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa has erected a Buddha statue of the former president’s parents.
W.G Chandrasena Banda a resident at the Minipura gama at Alahera had spent Rs one million on building a Buddha shrine.
He had erected the Buddha shrine at Karandagolla Samanala Pre-school. The building was built with the money he earned through odd jobs.
Apart from the shrine, Mr Banda had also offered a Dharmasana and a table to Karandagolla Temple to invoke blessings for the late Philip Gunawardena, father of current Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
Mr Banda who had built over five Budda shrines at five public places was also a former soldier of the Gajaba regiment.
