The G. C. E. Ordinary Level Examination for the year 2020 commences today amidst complaints from Teacher unions that Education authorities have failed to provide some of the basic facilities to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The unions claimed that arrangements have not been made to provide facilities to wash hands as well as sanitizer facilities.
The exam which was initially due be held in December had been delayed due to the COVID-19 situation. The exam is expected to end on March 10.
A total of 622,352 candidates, of them 423,746 school candidates are schedule to sit the exam.
The exam is to be held at 4,513 centers set up island-wide.
Forty special exam centers have been set up for candidates for COVID infected students.
