Govt. to provide Pfizer vaccine for A/Level students

The Government has planned to administer the Pfizer vaccine to students who are sitting for the GCE Advanced Level Examination, Education Minister and Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena told Parliament today. 

He told the House that discussions have already commenced betwen Health and Education Ministry officials on the subject following instructions issued by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Accordingly, it has been decided to administer the Pfizer vaccine to students sitting the upcoming A/Level examination as a first step, he added. 

Minister Gunawardena was responding to a question raised by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Patali Champika Ranawaka, who noted that the A/Level students were requesting that they be given the Pfizer vaccine. 

Meanwhile, addressing Parliament today, State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceutical Prof. Channa Jayasumana said the process of vaccinating children over 12 years of age with disabilities and chronic illnesses will commence from September 24 at the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital in Colombo. This will expand to other parts of the Western Province from September 27 and island-wide from October 4, the State Minister said. 

He added that the Pfizer vaccine will be administered to all children over 12 years who have disabilities and chronic illnesses.
