In the upcoming hours, there will be an increase in temperature in the Western, Southern, and North-Western provinces as well as in Ratnapura District, the Department of Meteorology warned the public.
The advisory, which was released today evening (Feb. 27), will remain in force until tomorrow evening (Feb. 28).
The heat index (measure of the temperature felt on the human body), is predicted to rise to a “Caution” level in parts of the Western, Southern, and North-Western provinces as well as Ratnapura District, according to the Met. Department.
Extended exposure and activities may result in weariness and heat cramps at this temperature, according to the advisory.
Nutritionists encourage both children and adults to wear light and loose-fitting clothes of natural materials.
It is further recommended that the public avoid intense outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, and take frequent breaks in the shade.
