The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) assured this week to extend further technical assistance to minimize the post harvest losses and work on active youth and women engagement in agriculture modernization programs in Sri Lanka.
The assurance was given on Wednesday when State Minister of Finance (MP) Shehan Semasinghe met with President of IFAD Alvaro Lario, who expressed satisfaction regarding the ongoing projects in Sri Lanka despite the challenges the country is facing, according to the State Minister.
“Further, It was stated that the request of Sri Lanka will be positively considered at the next country strategic policy and ensured to continue to support the development of the agriculture sector in Sri Lanka,” Minister Semasinghe said in a tweet following the meeting with IFAD leadership.
Over the last three decades, IFAD became one of the main development partners in the country, with total allocated financing of USD 340. 49 million under total project cost of USD 654.57 million by undertaking 19 projects with the household impact of 654, 832. (SR)

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
