India's Budget- 2025 saw a sharp increase for Sri Lanka from INR 2450 million (8415 Mn LKR) last year to INR 3000 million (10,304 Mn LKR) (Increase of 1,889 Mn LKR) as foreign aid in the latest Budget 2025-2026 presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman yesterday.
According to the Budget, India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has allocated INR 5,4830 million (188,314 Mn LKR or 188.34 Bn LKR) for aid to foreign nations placing a key emphasis on India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy.
In the South Asian neighbourhood, allocation for the Maldives has increased significantly from INR 4000 million (13,738 Mn LKR) to INR 6000 (20607 Mn LKR) after brief diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
