Lankan sniffer dogs to join UN peacekeeping in Lebanon
Sniffer dogs trained to detect explosives and narcotics will join the Lankan military contingent leaving for UN peacekeeping in Lebanon tomorrow (02).
The military contingent will include eight male officers, two female officers, 107 male soldiers, and eight female soldiers.
Army Spokesman Brigadier Ravi Herath said several four-legged experts specially trained to detect explosives and narcotics will join the contingent leaving for Lebanon tomorrow on an Ethiopian Airlines flight.
A military contingent consisting of 97 military personnel arrived in the country today (01) after completing one year of service in the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. They were welcomed by their families and senior officers of the military.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
