On the direction of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Presidential Secretariat has informed the Health Ministry to take steps to establish specialised hospitals to treat cancer patients and children given such hospitals are currently insufficient.
Accordingly, President's Secretary Saman Ekanayake has written to Health Ministry Secretary S.J.S Chandraguptha informing him to take measures to establish specialised hospitals dedicated to treating cancer patients in the districts of Jaffna, Hambantota, Badulla and Anuradhapura.
The President's Secretary has further informed the Health Ministry to establish a specialised hospital dedicated to treating children and equipped with all necessary facilities in a suitable area.
Meanwhile, on the directives of the President, the Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake has also directed the Health Ministry Secretary to appoint a committee to study the possibility of establishing a Modern Laboratory on Medical Research & submit their report within two months, the President's Media Division (PMD) stated.
