The National People’s Power (NPP) was heading for a landslide victory in the Parliamentary election, after returning 28 members to Parliament from five districts of the results announced so far and winning in 95 electorates of 100 results of only 60 electorates are yet to be announced.
The NPP has already won the Galle, Matara, Hambantora, Polonnaruwa and Badulla districts while results of 16 more electoral districts are due.
The NPP returned 18 members from the southern province – Galle (7), Matara (6) and Hambantota (5). The other members were elected from Polonnaruwa ((4) and Badulla (6)
The SJB returned one member each from the three districts in the southern province and one from Polonnaruwa and two from Badulla.
The SLPP returned one member each from Galle and Hambantota while the New Democratic Front returned one member from the Badulla district.
The EPDP won the Kayts electorate while the ITAK has won in three electorates including Kilinochchi.. An independent group has won the Chavakachcheri electorate.
