The first official result of the Tangalle Urban Council was released by the Election Commission within just four hours of polls closing, making it one of the earliest announcements of the Local Government Election.
The National People's Power (NPP) came out on top at the Tangalle Urban Council election, winning 9 out of 19 seats and securing 2,260 votes (46.18%).
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) took second place with 1,397 votes (28.55%), earning 5 seats.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), which previously dominated the area, managed just 795 votes (16.24%) and secured 3 seats.
The United National Party (UNP) and Sarvajana Balaya (SB) won one seat each, with 265 and 177 votes respectively.
Out of 7,105 registered voters, 4,990 cast their ballots, marking a turnout of just over 70%. Only 96 votes were rejected.
