National Development Committee to evaluate new projects

News

A National Development Committee would be established to evaluate new programmes and projects.

Due to the initiation of development projects and programmes without proper identification and formal monitoring, it has been found that some of the projects implemented in the past have not been able to achieve the desired results.

Therefore, a proposal regarding the establishment of a National Development Committee for the evaluation process of government projects and programs was presented by the President, Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Minister of Finance during the presentation of the budget for the year 2023.

The committee would be chaired by Daya Liyanage, a former Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, to present its recommendations to the Cabinet on projects and programmes with estimated costs or higher estimated costs considered by the procurement committees appointed by the Cabinet.

The proposal presented by the President was approved by the Cabinet.
