Patrol teams will be deployed by the Police Community Division to find persons living in Colombo city who have not received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, Police said.
Police Spokesman Senior Deputy Director General of Police (SDIG) Ajith Rohana said those who have not received the vaccine will be directed to Sugathadasa stadium to be vaccinated today (11).
“The Colombo Municipal Council’s Public Health Department together with the Police Community Division is conducting a vaccination drive for all those above 30 years of age and residing in the city. Today’s programme will be at Sugathadasa stadium,” he said.
According to him, 2000 persons have received the vaccine at a vaccination programme held in Shalika hall, Narahenpita yesterday (10).
“A total of 11,000 persons in Colombo have received COVID-19 vaccines during the past five days in vaccination programmes conducted in both Sugathadasa stadium and Shalika hall,” he said.
Meanwhile, a three-day special vaccination programme commenced today to vaccinate persons above 60 years of age in the Western province, the National Operation Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 said.
The Centre has collected information on people in the Western province over 60 years of age who have not received their first dose. People who have been identified will receive an SMS from the National Operation Centre indicating the date, place and time of vaccination.
Army hospital in Colombo will conduct the three-day programme on 11, 12 and 13 August for those in Colombo district. The vaccination programme for Gampaha district residents will be at the District General Hospital in Gampaha from 12-14 August. District General Hospital in Kalutara will have a vaccination programme on August 12.
