Police offer cash rewards for info on weapons and suspects

Police today offered cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of gangsters involved in organized crimes and the detection of weapons.

The offer came a day after the Police launched a fresh operation to crack down on organized crimes. The programme was launched under the direction of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon.

Under the scheme, cash rewards up to Rs 500,000 are being offered for the detection of weapons and leading to the arrest of wanted criminals.

Police Spokesman Deputy Inspector General of Police Nihal Thalduwa announced details of the rewards scheme.

Accordingly, for information leading to the detection of a T-56 weapon with the suspect or without the suspect a reward of Rs 500,000 will be offered.

For any information leading to the detection of a pistol with or without the suspect Rs 300,000 would be offered.

For a revolver with or without the suspect the reward will be Rs 250,000.

Any information leading to the detection of a Repeater weapon with the suspect, the reward will be Rs 250,000 while for any information leading to the detection only of the Repeater it would be Rs 200,000.

Police will provide a reward of Rs 200,000 for any information leading to the arrest of any other automatic weapon.

For hand grenades the reward offer will be Rs 50,000 while for other explosives the reward will be Rs 25,000.

For the detection of a weapon with the use of cartridges the reward is Rs 50,000 while without the suspect it would be Rs 25,000.

For information leading to the detection of a hand grenade the reward offer will be Rs 50,000 while for other explosives the reward will be Rs 25,000.

Police will also be able to offer rewards for information leading to the arrest of suspects, depending on the importance of the suspect.

Meanwhile four key suspects have been arrested in the fresh operation launched on Tuesday to detect members involved in organized criminal activities.

Since January as many as 100 incidents of organized crime have taken place claiming the lives of 56 persons, according to IGP Tennakoon.
