President Ranil Wickremesinghe today called for report on the clashes at the Kandakadu drug rehabilitation centre where at least 50 of the inmates escaped.
The President, currently overseas had discussed the issue with Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and instructed to take action to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. The directions came as a search operation for the missing inmates continued in the area.
At least 35 of them had returned by this morning, but the search for the rest is continuing . All vehicles and buses passing the area are being checked.
Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Major General Dharshana Hettiaarachchi said five persons had sustained minor injuries. He said the army and police were called in to restore control in the camp,
In June this year, more than 200 inmates escaped from the camp after the death of an inmate.
