The Railway Station Masters’ Union and railway controllers have resolved to end their strike action from midnight today (11).
Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardnea has declared that the letters served on those involved in the strike declaring them as persons who have vacated their post will be withdrawn if they return to work.
The railway workers on strike were notified via letters earlier today by the Ministry of Transport, that their non-attendance was deemed a resignation.
Due to a number of demands, including promotions, the Sri Lanka Railways Station Masters' Union launched the strike action starting at midnight on Tuesday, (09).
Later, railway controllers also made the decision to join the strike, which has had a significant negative impact on the country’s train services and led to the cancellation of several train journeys.
