The prevailing dry weather conditions being experienced in the Western slopes of the central hills has resulted in the water level of the Maussakelle Reservoir dwindling rapidly.
As a result of the low water level, the ruins of the old Maskeliya town that was flooded during the construction of the reservoir have now emerged.
The ruins that can be seen include those of a Buddha statue, a Hindu kovil and other buildings that stood in the old town.
