A senior member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has sought a court order to disqualify Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala from Parliament.
The petition has been filed by the Administrative Secretary of the SLPP on the grounds that Minister Wijepala is serving as a MP while holding a government position as the President’s Chief of Staff.
The petition has been filed in the Court of Appeal.

Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala told Parliament today that the suspect in the rape of a lady doctor at the Anuradhapura teaching hospital has been identified as an army deserter and he will be apprehended shortly.
