Sea cucumber and Tendu leaves valued at Rs 40 million smuggled into the country from India has been detected while being transported in a lorry in the Kanda Kuiya area of Kalpiitya, Police said today.
The driver and his assistant has been arrested over the incident, according to Acting OIC for Kalpitiya Wasantha Srilal Edirisinghe.
Sixty one bags of Tendu leaves and six bags of sea cucumber were detected in the raid.
The two suspects were due to be produced in courts today.
