A second forest fire within a week was reported in Ella occurred on Friday night (September 30) causing further damage to a reserve, Police said.
The fire was reported to the Police around 8:45 PM, but had automatically ceased by Saturday morning. The fire had occurred on top of a mountain in a forest reserve of Ella, situated above the 9th post area and the Ella road, with inconvenient accessibility.
Police is in the process of investigating the cause of the fire while investigations are underway.
The Ella Divisional Secretariat Office, District Disaster Management Center and the Forest Department have also been notified of the fire.
Last week 16 students were arrested for causing a fire in the Ella Rock area where several acres were damaged.
