Congress Labour Foundation, an institution affiliated with Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) undertook a self employment training initiative for the unemployed youths in the plantation community in order to empower them with necessary technical skills.
At least 130 youths from the plantation community took part in a week-long workshop where they were exposed to extensive training on batic, tailoring, embroidering etc. The youths are expected to make a living utilizing the skills they gained from the workshop and will be able to make an extra income to support their families.
The training workshop was organized by Jeevan Thondaman, Secretary of CWC, Kothai Naachiyaar Thondaman and Vijayalakshmi Thondaman. The workshop was supported by Indian Community Forum.
